This project is a part of the exhibition “Republish: Typography As...” — an exhibition by Behalf Studio. It seeks to investigate the typographic remnants that are hidden in the ever-changing urban landscape of Vietnam, revive them into digital typefaces, and then apply them in contextual interpretations.
The installation, “Typography as Landmark” blends the border between analogue and digital, consisting of posters that are created using our own generator from the data collected from social media posts about Bến Thành Market.
The engine collects data from public Instagram posts with the hashtags #benthanhmarket, #chobenthanh, or #benthanh. Those assets are then used to call up geographical data of the post, from which the engine is able to acquire the real-time weather data of that location. After a few minutes of processing, the engine produces a typographic poster automatically uploads it to the website.
